Finishing up “Eagle One”

Welcome back. After a long day I decided to get back at it. For some reason I decided to finish up “Eagle One” and add some decretive wraps to the butt section. This is my first attempt and oh boy it ended up looking nothing like the picture, but I think over all it turned out great. For some odd reason I got a wild hair and wanted to complete this rod at ten o’clock at night. So I got myself a cup of coffee and went to town.  After a few hours I finally finished. Wile its not perfect it is unique.

I originally decided to do the chevron pattern that I found online. It looked relatively simple, normally I can do just about anything with pictures for directions. This however was not the case . I should have done a little more reading instead of taking the bull in a china shop approach. It’s defiantly not a chevron. Here is a link to the website I used. http://suncoastrodcrafters.com/Info/Cross_Wrap_Made_Easy.pdf .

I found some of my old fly-tying gear, the bobbin defiantly helped me out in wrapping. While I have watched a few videos on this subject I did not see anyone using this. Before I used the bobbin, I found that when the spool would need to unwind the release of tenson would screw up what I was wrapping. Luckley one of my bobbins was big enough to handle this task.

Now all I need to do is the epoxy finish. This will be a challenge for me because my work area is dusty. So I went to my favorite rod building supply store Mudhole.com looking for a solution. I ended up ordering a rod drying tent. I also needed to grab some thread finish.
